What's new in X Sim Lab. Newer releases at the top.
v2.1.0 — October 2026
Exports come out at the camera's full size, TIFF 16-bit joins JPEG and HEIF, and the recipe shelf opens much faster.
Added
- TIFF 16-bit as an export format
- The photo library can store developed photos as JPEG, HEIF or TIFF
- Typing # in the recipe search suggests the tags on your shelf
- Storing a photo shows a shortcut straight into the library, and the develop progress bar previews the frame it is working on
Improved
- Exports are rendered at full size; they previously came out at the smaller preview size
- Rotation, crop, resize and quality apply in whichever format you export, so HEIF keeps its crop
- The recipe shelf opens faster, with cards appearing whole instead of building up piece by piece
Fixed
- "Add to setup slot" from a recipe's details lands on the shelf with the recipe ready to place
- A second back button appeared after importing into an empty editor
- The camera intro no longer opens on top of another sheet
- Star ratings could render as blank glyphs
v2.0.0 — September 2026
A rebuild of most of the app. Developed photos live in a library of their own, importing lets you look through the card before downloading, and recipes are drawn as generative art and edited in one details sheet on iPad and iPhone.
Added
- Photo library: developed photos and the RAW frames they came from, synced through iCloud, with albums, a trash with restore, search, and filters for kind and rating
- Import from your existing files into the library
- Pick from the card: browse the camera's card before downloading, view a frame full-size, star frames to sort and filter, and download only what you select
- Recipe art: every recipe is drawn as concentric rings derived from its settings, redrawn live as you turn a dial
- Setups (previously "groups"): assign a recipe to a slot from its details and drop it onto the setup on the shelf
- "Read settings from text" fills in a recipe from pasted text as a best guess; nothing is stored until you save
- Online recipes can be filtered by film simulation, processor, camera and upvotes
- iPhone: recipe details with editing, plus online recipe browsing
- Tap a value on a stepper to jump straight to it
Improved
- Convert and Store are one Develop action: store in the photo library, or export to Apple Photos or Files
- The editor is rebuilt, with presets first and the recipes for the camera in use
- "Recipe Manager" is now "My Recipes"; recipes open and are edited in a details sheet
- Recipes downloaded from or shared to the wiki are ordinary editable recipes
- A recipe stores every setting, so what you see is what is saved and shared
- Settings, menus, buttons and sheets use system controls, tinted in the app's orange
- Editing and recipe management are treated as supported on every listed camera; the Verify flow is gone
- Writing recipes over Bluetooth is limited to the X-T5 until other bodies are confirmed
- When the camera isn't ready the app says what it is doing instead of "Unsupported mode"
- The app no longer sends camera capability reports in the background
Fixed
- A recipe write no longer fails entirely when the camera refuses a single setting; the rest is written and the refused ones are reported
- An incomplete settings backup is rejected instead of being saved as if it had succeeded
- A slow camera response was reported as a disconnect
- A camera in card-reader mode timed out before it was ready
- The "System" theme stayed on whatever was active at launch
- A failed develop run left the button stuck
- Crop marks are legible on the light theme
v1.6.0 — August 2026
A first iPhone version (early and rough), settings backup and restore that works over Bluetooth as well as USB, and recipe features matched to what each camera can actually do.
Added
- iPhone app: welcome, settings and a recipe manager; an early first pass, marked experimental
- Auto White Priority and Auto Ambience Priority white-balance modes
Improved
- Recipe upload and download is offered only on cameras that support it; every X-Trans III, the X-T3, X-T30, GFX 50S and GFX 50R can't access their C1–C7 slots over USB
- Controls a camera doesn't have are hidden per body
- Connecting is more forgiving, and Bluetooth pairing gets more time on slower bodies
- When a camera refuses an action it says why instead of failing silently
Fixed
- Settings restore over Bluetooth now completes
- Editing a RAW file could crash on some cameras
- The app could freeze while connecting over USB
- The X-T50 and X-Pro2 are recognised in RAW-conversion mode
v1.5.0 — June 2026
The recipe wiki goes live in the app: browse, share and upvote recipes online, under a pen name. Plus wireless camera support and batch export.
Added
- Online recipe wiki: a browsable, searchable feed of shared recipes, filtered by camera
- Share a recipe, add your own description to an existing one, or upvote a description
- A one-time "Go online?" step; the app stays fully offline until you confirm
- A pseudonymous author name and bio, and a switch to turn online features off again
- Report action on shared recipes
- Wireless camera connection over Bluetooth, in addition to the USB cable
- Batch export: develop several frames at once to JPEG or HEIF, with quality and resize
- Export straight to a Photos album or to Files
- In-app check for over-the-air updates
Improved
- The camera connection is rebuilt: reliable connect, disconnect and reconnect, no false "unsupported"
- Bluetooth connects on demand, acts, and drops the link
Fixed
- The editor preview refreshes on every change instead of showing a stale render
- Camera import no longer shows doubles when the same RAF is on both cards
- The X-E5 connects correctly; the X-T30 II no longer reports a failed connection
v1.4.2 — June 2026
More cameras confirmed working, a refreshed recipe manager, and the new glass control set throughout the editor.
Added
- Glass-style controls across the editor, including a tuner dial for white-balance colour temperature
- Your camera is recognised automatically on connect, so its film looks and controls match exactly what that body can do
Improved
- Recipe manager refresh: changes commit when you save, a cleaner add-recipe dialog, and a read-only browsing mode
- Camera support is more accurate body by body — film looks and fine-tuning steps are now right for each camera, not assumed
Fixed
- Cameras sitting on the Default film-sim position now connect reliably
- Saving recipes and your camera library is more dependable, with clearer recovery if something goes wrong
v1.4.1 — May 2026
Smoother connections for more camera bodies.
Fixed
- Previous-generation bodies (like the X-T30 II) now connect cleanly instead of being turned away
- Late camera callbacks after unplugging no longer cause crashes
- A camera that briefly drops its connection is no longer mistaken for an unsupported one
v1.4.0 — May 2026
The recipe lab becomes its own workspace, recipes gain tags and search, and the iPad gets a proper home screen with settings and a camera library.
Added
- Recipe lab: a dedicated workspace with search, plus tags you can filter by
- Name and tag recipes however you think, with suggestions from tags you already use
- Setting sets: back up all seven custom slots from a body and swap recipes on top, then restore the whole set in one go
- Paste in a recipe you find online and it becomes an editable entry
- A home screen with settings and a My Cameras library — cameras add themselves on connect, or pick them from the list yourself
- Read the full shot info (EXIF) for any frame, no camera needed
- Your filmstrip stays put across app restarts
- Friendly loading screen while a photo develops
- New app icon
Improved
- Your library lives in iCloud — a delete on one iPad no longer reappears on another, and older local recipes can be moved over with a tap
- Smoother preview: better zoom, and crop authored right in the zoom view
- The editor tells an untouched shot from an edited one at a glance
Fixed
- Camera import shows every thumbnail; portraits aren't cropped to landscape
- Name a camera slot before sending a recipe across
- Frame mode opens fitted to screen instead of a stuck blurry crop
- Crop stays accurate on any photo orientation
- Switching photos mid-develop no longer mixes one shot's pixels with another's
v1.3.1 — May 2026
First round of field-tester fixes.
Fixed
- Camera import shows every thumbnail; portraits, 16:9, and square shots aren't cropped to landscape
- Name a camera slot yourself when sending a recipe across
- Frame mode opens fitted to screen — no more stuck blurry crop
- Crop ratios stay accurate on any photo orientation
- Switching photos while one is developing no longer lands the result on the wrong shot
- Clearing the filmstrip returns to the empty state instead of freezing on the last photo
v1.3.0 — May 2026
Added
- Frame mode: a clean white border around your shot
- A dedicated flow for importing straight from the camera
Improved
- Simplified camera status in the sidebar
- App is now built just for iPad
Fixed
- A stalled camera now recovers with a clear "disconnect and reconnect" message instead of hanging
v1.2.0 — April 2026
First release on the App Store.
Added
- Connect your Fujifilm camera over USB-C and develop your RAWs with its own rendering
- The full set of current Fujifilm film simulations and recipe settings
- Crop your shots
- Import from Files, from Photos, or straight from the camera
- Save and manage your recipes
- Work with your camera's seven custom slots (C1–C7)
- Try different recipes on copies of the same shot
- Reset any photo back to how it looked out of camera
- Zoom and pan the preview
